Who we are

ShopAlong is made by Kantan Solutions Group Ltd., a company registered in New Brunswick, Canada. For anything in this policy, email hello@kantangroup.com.

What we collect

Nothing. ShopAlong has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party software that sends information anywhere. We do not receive your pantries, items, shopping lists, photos, store locations or anything else you put into the app. ShopAlong’s App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected” for this reason.

Where your information is kept

Everything you enter is stored on your device. If you’re signed in to iCloud, it also syncs through Apple’s CloudKit to your own private iCloud database, so it reaches your other devices. That storage belongs to your Apple Account and is covered by Apple’s privacy policy. We cannot see or access it.

People you share with

When you share a pantry or a shopping list, the people you invite can see and change what’s in it through iCloud sharing, including item photos and any store locations pinned to a shared list. You choose who to invite, and you can remove people or stop sharing at any time from Manage Sharing.

The one thing that goes online

When you scan a barcode, ShopAlong looks it up in Open Food Facts, an independent, non-profit product database, to get the product’s name and brand. The request contains only the barcode number and the app’s name and version. It includes no account, name or device identifier. Like any website, Open Food Facts’ servers can see the internet address the request comes from, and Open Food Facts has its own privacy policy.

Camera and photos

The camera is used only to read barcodes, and only while the Scan tab is open. Nothing from the scanner is recorded, saved or sent anywhere. If you add a photo to an item, you choose it with the iOS photo picker, which shares only the photo you pick. The photo is resized and stored with the rest of your data, on your devices and in your iCloud.

Location

Location is optional. It’s used only if you pin a store to a shopping list and turn on arrival reminders. ShopAlong then asks iOS to watch those store locations, and iOS tells the app when you arrive so it can show a reminder. The store locations you pin are saved with the list. Your own location stays on your device and is never sent to us or anyone else. You can change location access at any time in the iOS Settings app.

Notifications

Store reminders and household-change alerts are created on your device. We don’t run a notification server. To notice changes made by your household, the app relies on Apple’s iCloud, which quietly wakes it when shared data changes.

Siri, Shortcuts and Spotlight

When you add to a list with Siri, Siri handles your voice under Apple’s terms and ShopAlong saves the item on your device. Items are added to Spotlight so you can search for them. That index stays on your device.

Apple Intelligence

On devices that support it, ShopAlong may use Apple’s on-device models to suggest an item’s category or translate a product name into English. This happens entirely on the device. You can turn both off in Settings › Defaults for New Items.

Purchases

ShopAlong Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple processes the payment, and we never receive your payment details. The app asks Apple whether Pro has been purchased on your Apple Account so it can unlock it.

Backups you share

A backup file, or a list you send as a text, goes wherever you choose to save or send it. Once it leaves the app, it’s under your control and the control of the service you share it with.

Deleting your data

You can delete any item, list or pantry in the app. Deleting the app removes the data stored on your device. Data synced to iCloud can be removed by deleting it in the app first, or in the iOS Settings app under your name › iCloud. Because we hold nothing, there’s nothing for us to delete, but we’re happy to help if you have questions.

Children

ShopAlong does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and similar laws, you can ask what personal information we hold about you. For ShopAlong the answer is none. If you email us, our site’s privacy policy explains how we handle that message.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top of the page. If ShopAlong ever starts collecting any data, this page will say exactly what, and why, before that version of the app is released.
