MotoMaint support
Step-by-step guides for the things people ask about most, answers to common questions, and a person to email if you’re still stuck.
How-to guides
Getting things done in MotoMaint.
Add your first vehicle
- Open the Garage tab and tap New vehicle. In an empty garage the button reads Add your first vehicle.
- Choose a vehicle type, then the make, year and model. If yours isn’t listed, choose Other and type it in.
- Give it a nickname. That’s the name you’ll use with Siri, so pick something you’d say out loud.
- Add a photo and your insurance and registration details if you like. MotoMaint creates a renewal reminder 30 days before each expiry date.
Moving from another device? Tap Already have data? Import a backup instead.
Record a service
- Open the vehicle from the Garage tab and tap Record service.
- Pick a service interval to fill in the details, or choose — None — and type your own service name.
- Add the date and the reading, plus the cost, notes and who did the work if you want them on record.
- Tap Log. Reminders tied to that service are scheduled forward from it.
Update the odometer or engine hours
- Tap Update odometer on the vehicle’s card in the Garage tab, or on the vehicle’s page. For boats it reads Update hours.
- Enter the new reading and save. Distance-based reminders recalculate against it straight away.
- If the number is lower than the last reading, MotoMaint asks before saving it. Tap Yes, set lower reading if that’s right, for example after a new odometer.
Faster still: use Siri, below.
Use Siri, Shortcuts and the Action button
- Say “Hey Siri, update nickname in MotoMaint”, using the vehicle’s nickname.
- Siri asks for the reading. It knows whether that vehicle uses the odometer or engine hours, and your reminders update without opening the app.
- The same action is available as Update Reading in the Shortcuts app, which you can also put on the Action button.
Settings › Siri & Shortcuts shows the exact phrase for your vehicles.
Set up reminders and service intervals
- On a vehicle’s page, tap Add reminder for a one-off, or Service intervals for the tasks that repeat.
- New to this? In Service intervals, tap Load common templates to start with popular tasks you can edit.
- With MotoMaint Pro, Import OEM schedule fills in the manufacturer’s own service schedule where one is available.
- Not ready for a reminder yet? Tap Snooze. Choose how far it moves in Settings › Snooze durations.
Get notified when something is due
- Go to Settings › Notifications.
- Turn on When a service is due for a notification at 9 am on the due date.
- Turn on Monthly reading reminder for a nudge after 30 days without a new reading.
Notifications are off until you turn them on. If iOS has them blocked for MotoMaint, the app tells you and takes you to the right setting.
Sync your iPhone and iPad with iCloud Drive
- Go to Settings › Storage and tap iCloud Drive.
- Confirm with Switch to iCloud Drive. Your data is copied to your iCloud Drive and the app restarts.
- Do the same on your other device. It picks up the same data automatically.
You need to be signed in to iCloud with iCloud Drive turned on. Your data sits in your own iCloud storage; we can’t see it.
Back up and restore
- To back up, go to Settings › Data export and tap Share backup (.moto). Save the file to Files or iCloud Drive, or send it wherever you keep backups.
- To restore, go to Settings › Import data, tap Select backup file and choose your .moto file. Photos in the backup come back too.
- A full backup replaces everything currently in the app. MotoMaint asks first (Replace all data?), and it can’t be undone.
Import service history from a spreadsheet (Pro)
- Go to Settings › Import service history (CSV) and tap Share CSV template.
- Fill in one row per service:
motorcycle(the vehicle’s nickname),serviceDate(YYYY-MM-DD),serviceNameorserviceTemplate, andodometerKm.costandnotesare optional. - Tap Import CSV file and choose your file. If a row can’t be imported, MotoMaint lists it with the reason.
Restore your Pro purchase
- Sign in to the App Store with the Apple Account you bought Pro with.
- Go to Settings › MotoMaint Pro and tap Restore Purchases.
With Family Sharing, members of your family group get Pro too, with nothing to restore.
Questions
Frequently asked.
Do I need an account?
No. There’s nothing to sign up for. MotoMaint works as soon as you open it.
Where is my data stored?
On your device, or, if you switch it on, in your own iCloud Drive, which keeps your iPhone and iPad in sync. Either way it never reaches us. The privacy policy has the detail.
Does MotoMaint work offline?
Yes. The only thing that uses the internet is the list of models when you add a car or motorcycle. Offline, you can pick from the built-in motorcycle list or type the model yourself.
What’s free, and what does Pro add?
Free covers up to 2 active vehicles with full service history, reminders, renewals, iCloud Drive sync, backups and Siri. Pro adds unlimited vehicles, factory service schedules and spreadsheet import. Your logs, reminders, iCloud sync and backups are never locked behind Pro.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. It’s a one-time purchase, and Family Sharing is included.
How do I move to a new phone?
If you use iCloud Drive, sign in on the new phone, install MotoMaint and switch it to iCloud Drive in Settings › Storage. Otherwise, make a .moto backup on the old phone and restore it on the new one. See Back up and restore.
I’m on the free plan and need a third vehicle.
Archive a vehicle you’re not using. Archived vehicles don’t count toward the limit, keep all their history, and can be restored later. Or unlock Pro for an unlimited garage.
I deleted a vehicle. Can I get it back?
Deleting is permanent: it removes the vehicle with its logs, reminders and photos. If you have a .moto backup from before, you can restore from it. To put a vehicle away without losing anything, archive it instead.
Why didn’t I get a notification?
Notifications are off until you turn them on in Settings › Notifications. Due reminders arrive at 9 am on the due date. If they’re on and nothing arrives, check that notifications for MotoMaint are allowed in the iOS Settings app.
Can I use miles instead of kilometres?
Yes. Choose Miles (mi) or Kilometres (km) in Settings › Units.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later.
What happens to my data if I delete the app?
Data stored on the device is deleted with the app. Data in iCloud Drive stays there until you remove it. Either way, a recent .moto backup is the safest thing to keep.
